About Wayne Volz

Wayne Volz started his lawn and landscape business mowing lawns while in high school and continued his efforts through college at Sullivan University in Kentucky. Upon graduation, Volz took a “real job” as an assistant director of financial aid at the university, only to resign four years later to focus full-time on the continued growth and success of Wayne’s Lawn Service, Inc., the company he started as a teenager.

To give back to his community, Volz opened Profits Unlimited in 1990, an organization designed to help field service business owners across the U.S. and Canada learn from the mistakes that limited his success and profitability at various times during his 43-year career. He says, “the school of hard knocks is a great teacher, but it’s expensive and takes too long.” The principles and techniques he shares apply to one-truck operations as well as multi-crew companies and helped grow his business from nine accounts to recognition as a Top 10 Small Business.

Volz has written numerous articles for national trade publications, serves as the international show host of Turf’s Up radio, and offers seminars and consulting on bidding, contracts, marketing, advertising, selling, and other business-related topics.
